Russells Point Center

For many years the center of activity in Russells Point was centered on the west side of the harbor. This is where John Russell built his cabin in the late nineteenth century. The first post office was not far from the hotel, as well a grocery store, diners and, of course, the boat landing from which sight-seeing boats departed for trips around the lake.

Other than the foot bridge which has become the symbol for Russell Point’s glorious past, and the statue of Our Lady of Fatima erected in the 1960s, all of the buildings and landmarks shown on the postcards have long gone. The locations in the map above are based on careful inspection of the postcards and trying to reconstruct the lay-out from multiple overlapping cards.

The following two annotated aerial views of the center of Russells Point may help in locating the various buildings shown in the postcards.
