Vintage Postcards of Indian Lake

My collection of vintage postcards of Indian Lake is categorized into different regions shown in the GoogleEarth image above – or, better, these regions will be shown as I move around the lake in a clockwise manner. Clicking on a region in the list below gets you to another page from where you can select topics by which the postcards are further divided. Hopefully this organization makes the entire collection clear and uncluttered.

The only local photographer who consistently dated his postcards with the year written on the front was Harry Mansfield. All other dates given are from the postmark on the back of the card – if the postmark was legible!

Technical details

Postcards were scanned on a flatbed Epson scanner at 100% and at 450 dpi with descreen option selected to remove any dots that could show up (especially in scans from newspapers or magazines). Each image was saved in TIF format. After scanning, images were imported into Photoshop to rotate and crop images if needed, remove imperfections such as blotches, folds and creases, and to adjust exposure, vibrance, and color settings, to enhance the photographic image. Finally, for use on this website, the images were saved at 450 dpi in JPEG format (which considerably reduces file size compared to TIF).

Example of a photograph that has been processed in Photoshop. The image on the left shows the original scan, and the image on the right the results after removing blotches and imperfections and adjusting contrast, color tone, and lighting.
